About “Tie Your Shoes Kid” By Meta Sarmiento

Meta Sarmiento weaves together the past, the present, and a hopeful outlook on his future in his self-published anthology of original poetic works. As an Asian-Pacific-Islander-American, Sarmiento has a unique perspective on love, life, and loss. His poetry brings a new voice to the genre that strives to be heard.

This anthology will explore different emotions within the writer and expose different emotions within the reader. As any form of art goes, the artist and the observer are experiencing the same art with different minds. As the reader, you will find yourself identifying with parts of Sarmiento’s life, even if you are not a Filipino poet from the Island of Guam.

This is a quick read, but I have never devoured a book of poetry as quickly or as many times as I did this one. I implore you as you read, go back and read each poem again. There are moments that pass at first glance that need to be read again. Make sure to take a pen or highlighter with you, because you will find some really amazing lines that will make you gasp, laugh out loud, or sit silently as you come to understanding.

Do not take this review as me being biased, seeing as Meta and I have been friends for quite some time. See this as an open and honest moment in my pride for how much he has grown as a writer. I highly suggest that you make the time to buy and read this book. It has a strong voice that speaks of weak moments and struggled growth. You will not regret having this on your shelves.
